The world’s only stylus for skin. Magic pen allows users to draw, write, edit, and erase tattoos made with Magic Ink.

Rewritable. Erasable. Reprogrammable.

Proving the efficacy and functionality of Magic Ink was one of HYPRSKN’s first objectives.

Below are some of the very first examples of the rewritability of Magic Tattoos using Magic Pen:

One Tattoo. Endless Possibilities.

Each design pictured above was activated and erased on the same patch of tattooed skin.

Tattoos made with Magic Ink can be programmed into specific designs or patterns by combining monochromatic or polychromatic light sources, such as Magic Pen, with stencil-like transparency masks or rasters during exposure. This enables a pixel-by-pixel approach to programming the tattoo design.

Magic Pen can also be used freehand to create “hand-drawn” images on the skin with endless possibilities.

How Magic Pen Transforms Magic Ink

Magic Pen isn't a pen at all; it’s a light source that utilizes UV light to activate the photochromic particles in Magic Ink through a process called photoexcitation.

During this process, when UV light of the appropriate wavelength interacts with the photochromic particles, the photons are absorbed by the photochromic molecules. This absorption causes the electrons within the molecules to be promoted to higher energy levels, known as excited states. Once the electrons are in the excited state, they can undergo various photochemical reactions, which lead to a change in the molecular configuration or electron distribution, resulting in a distinct color or transparency shift in the photochromic particles.

The activation of photochromic particles by UV light is reversible, meaning that the particles can return to their original state when the UV light source is removed or when exposed to light of a different wavelength (in this case, white light).

This mechanism allows for the modulation of color or transparency in the particles, offering exciting applications in areas such as smart materials, sensors, optical devices, and displays.

Magic Pen Is Designed with Safety in Mind

Built-in over-current protection and thermal shutdown circuits ensure that electrical faults stays isolated and prevent the pen from overheating. Micropower current fuel gauge circuitry tracks the battery relative state-of-charge (SOC) continuously over widely varying charge and discharge conditions. Transient voltage suppression (TVS) avalanche diode arrays, designed to suppress electrostatic discharge (ESD) and other transient overvoltage events, help protect Magic Pen internal high speed signal lines.

For optimal skin safety, Magic Pen only uses UVA light with a wavelength of 360nm or greater, and has a power rating of ~1W or less.
